Originally from Chatham, Ontario, Jon moved to Alberta at just two years old and has since called it home. With over 30 years of extensive experience in his field, Jon has dedicated his career to making a meaningful impact on the lives of youth and families. This dedication is evident in Jon’s fulfillment from connecting with the youth and families supported by Hull. Outside of work, Jon cherishes family gatherings and getting outside. You can find John enjoying nature while camping or playing golf. He is especially enthusiastic about speed golf, where he aims to quickly complete a 9-hole course while walking. Jon can usually achieve this in under an hour!
Born and raised in Calgary, Dan grew up in Woodbine, just five minutes from Hull’s SW campus. After spending time in Vancouver for his post-secondary education, he returned to Calgary. Dan has been with Hull full-time since 2016, although he has worked on and off with the organization since 2009. Dan wears many hats within the Agency – he is head of the Maintenance department and also oversees information systems as well as information technology. Dan thrives in the dynamic work environment and appreciates the opportunity to improve the spaces where youth live and staff work. In his free time, he enjoys reading, hiking, spending quality time with his daughters and wife. Dan is also a foodie –if he was given the chance, Dan would happily eat sushi and pizza every day for the rest of his life!
Marianna was born and raised in the breathtaking landscapes of Banff, Alberta. While she is proudly Canadian, her first language is Greek! Marianna began her HR career in 2009, initially working in transportation before finding her true calling in the non-profit sector. She thrives on building connections with employees and leadership, fostering a safe environment, and problem solving. Marianna is also dedicated to promoting employee and organizational development and enhancing workplace culture. Outside of work, Marianna loves spending quality time with her family, particularly her nephews. She enjoys reading, learning new things and exploring the great outdoors through nature walks. Additionally, she practices yoga and biking to stay energized.
John is a lifelong Calgarian who got his first strides in Vegreville before moving to Calgary as a toddler. He first learned the importance of giving at his local community center, where he volunteered for many events alongside his parents. John’s life-long passion for volunteering led him to 35 years with the Calgary Stampede Parade and 15 years with AFP Calgary. He has now been working in the non-profit sector for nearly two decades. John settled down at Hull Services in 2020. He is motivated when he has the opportunity to find the connection between a donor’s interests and Hull’s needs. When he’s not working, John enjoys spending time on trails, either walking his dog or biking. He also enjoys running and has participated in nearly 50 marathons!
A native Calgarian, Rob Leong dedicated over 25 years to the oil industry, honing his skills since graduating from the University of Calgary in 1994. In recent years, he has transitioned into the non-profit sector, settling in at Hull in 2021. Here, Rob thrives on helping people while delivering strong financial results. Outside of his professional life, Rob is an active community member. In the winter, you can find him driving the zamboni in his local arena. He also volunteers with PALS, where his Pomeranian serves as a registered pet therapist. Rob also enjoys being on the water. He is an avid dragon boat racer and has also relaxed on over 60 cruises, with many more adventures on the horizon!
Originally from Sackville, New Brunswick, Denise began working in her field in 1993. A year later, she moved 4 provinces away and began her long-standing career with Hull. Denise played a pivotal role in working collaboratively with school personnel and colleagues to implement Dr. Perry’s Neurosequential Model (NM), a framework now embraced throughout the agency. Denise enjoys leading teams and partnering with others to provide the best support and treatment for youth and families. Outside of her professional life, Denise loves to relax. She hikes and practices yoga often, but what she truly values is being able to spend quality time with her kids and dog.
Born in Ontario, raised in Manitoba and finally settling in Alberta, Emily feels that Hull has always been more than just a workplace; it’s like another home to her. Emily has been a cornerstone of Hull Services for over two decades, bringing over 30 years of experience. Her motivation lies in collaborating on projects with professionals and nurturing the growth of others. Outside of work, Emily loves to learn new things, travel, and capture moments through photography. She also cherishes time spent with her husband and two children, who are her reasons for being.
A proud Calgarian, Virginia holds the unique title of being the first baby born in the city in 1982. She grew up on a farm just minutes from Hull’s campus. Immediately after post-secondary, Virginia landed her first job at Hull Services. For over two decades, Virginia has been supporting staff to reach their full potential, engaging with local partners to drive change and connection, particularly through her involvement with Hull’s Voices. In her personal time, Virginia enjoys yoga, swimming, and the joys of reading and writing. While she dreams of publishing a novel one day, her current role as a busy mom for her two active boys keeps her on her toes.
Shelby joined the Hull team in 2016. Over the years, she has worked in a variety of different roles, providing trauma-informed, evidence-based approaches to youth dealing with developmental trauma and mental health and behavioural issues. Shelby enjoys spending time in programs, interacting with youth and staff. In addition to her work at Hull Services, Shelby teaches part-time at City University and has an active practice focused on assessment and counseling for youth and families. In her spare time, you will find Shelby attending dance classes, hiking, and reading. She is also a classically trained opera singer!
Joanne is a corporate director and lawyer with more than 30 years experience in the energy industry. She has held executive roles with globally operating public. Joanne has a long history of community involvement, and she currently sits on several not-for-profit boards.
In November of 2024 she was elected Chair of Hull Services’ board of governors. A long-term resident of Calgary, Joanne is the proud mom of two young adults.
Mark is currently the Executive Vice President, ATCO EnPower, a global organization with a focus on renewable resources such as solar, wind and hydroelectric energy. For over 25 years, Mark has taken on various leadership roles in the energy, infrastructure, and technical services sectors. He has experience in engineering, construction, project management, fabrication and corporate portfolios.
Mark enjoys being involved in the community, coaching, and spending time with his family.
Ross joined the Hull Services Board in 2018. He is the lead of Boston Consulting Group (BCG) in Calgary as well as BCG Canada’s Energy Practice. Ross brings deep expertise in strategy development and business model innovation from his longstanding international career with BCG in Calgary, Melbourne, and New York.
With experience on numerous not-for-profit boards in Calgary including the Glenbow Museum and Tourism Calgary, and additional volunteer work supporting Calgary Economic Development, Ross also brings additional expertise in Calgary’s tourism economy.
Deborah is a charitable sector leader with more than 30 years’ experience in government, health care, education, and the arts. She is currently Senior Advisor to the CEO of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society (RCGS).
Deborah has held many senior executive positions, most recently as CEO of the national Trans Canada Trail (TCT). Earlier in her career, Deborah served as Senior Vice President for the Calgary Health Region and CEO of the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation. Deborah has also consulted with organizations like S.T.A.R.S, CNIB, and Ketchum Canada. In recognition of her achievements Deborah was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond & Platinum Jubilee Medals.
Geri is an energy industry executive with over 25 years of experience. She is a capital markets executive and a founding member of the management team and the Chief Financial Officer of Spartan Delta. She currently serves as a board director with Logan Energy, Lycos Energy, and Thread Innovations.
Geri previously co-founded and was the CCO, COO & Portfolio Manager for Camber Capital Corp., a fund manager offering private and institutional fund management services. Geri has a history of community involvement including serving on the Providence School Board and having served 7 years as a director for Discovery House Violence Prevention Society.
Howie’s leadership roles in his career, community, and his profession were recognized in 2008 by CPA Alberta with Fellowship recognition, in 2020 by CPA Alberta with a Lifetime Achievement Award and in 2022 by the United Way Calgary and Area with a Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Medal. Howie practiced as a Chartered Public Accountant as a principal partner for most of his career and was involved in several businesses.
Howie and his wife Sher have two adult children. Howie keeps active with downhill skiing, travelling the world, golfing and is a retired runner.
Jackie has been a faculty member at the University of Calgary for over 25 years serving in numerous faculty leadership roles. Under Jackie’s leadership, the Faculty of Social Work grew to become the largest in Canada. Its innovative programming and unique curriculum models have led to the program’s ability to blend face-to-face and technology-based instruction.
Jackie’s professional experience includes social work practice experience in short-term adolescent care, probation, hospital and program planning settings. His primary research interests and activities focus on evaluation and accountability mechanisms in social policy and administration of human services.
Jeff brings over 30 years of experience in the private, non-profit and public sectors in Western Canada. Jeff is the founder and CEO of Prairie Sky Strategy, a public affairs advisory firm headquartered in Calgary. Prior to starting Prairie Sky in 2013, Jeff spent five years as Chief Operating Officer at Impact Society, 15 years in the financial services sector, and three years working with the Saskatchewan Legislature.
Community involvement and volunteerism are important to Jeff and he has led several successful fundraising efforts for non-profits. Jeff has also served on several community, arts and government related boards. In his spare time, Jeff likes to golf and has completed several 5k, 10k and half-marathon runs.
Andrew is a partner at Burnet, Duckworth & Palmer LLP. His practice involves complex, high-stakes litigation across a wide range of areas, including commercial, construction, energy, regulatory and security disputes, corporate governance issues and class actions. Before joining BD&P in 2011, Andrew worked at a top national law firm in Toronto. He has appeared as lead counsel before lower courts in Alberta and Ontario, the Alberta Court of Appeal, administrative tribunals and in commercial arbitrations.
Kory is a partner in the assurance services group of PwC Calgary. He has more than 17 years of experience providing professional services to Canadian and international companies.
Kory is passionate about working with his clients, staff and the organizations he serves in his community. He is also on the board of directors of CPA Alberta.
Kim is Vice President and General Manager of Canadian Operations at Ovintiv.
Kim was recognized as a recipient of the Inspirational Team Leader award at the 2017 North American Women in Energy Forum, and a 2020 Honoree at The Manufacturing Institute’s STEP Ahead awards. She is also a governor for the Canadian Energy Executive Association.
In her free time, Kim serves as principal oboist in the Calgary Fire Department’s “Cappy Smart” Band, enjoys tournament poker, and quilting. Kim and her husband Zane enjoy traveling, camping and fishing together with their dog Doug.
