How Crossroads Market has Impacted the Local Community and Hull Services for Decades

The meaning of community can evoke many different emotions and feelings. It creates a sense of belonging, being welcomed and supported, and being a part of a community means sharing in a space with people who have common values, are passionate about a common purpose, and care about the well-being of others.

Since 1987, Crossroads Market has embodied these values of community. They have provided Calgarians with an inviting and unique market filled with a diverse set of vendors and wares – ranging from bakeries with delicious scones and pies to local produce, spice merchants, clothing, jewellery, and much more.

“Community is everything to Crossroads. We love the community we’re in, Inglewood and Ramsay, as they’ve been so supportive of us,” says Kori Kendall.

Kori’s dad, Gerry, taught her and her family the importance of being involved in your community, giving back, and having a philanthropic mindset.

The work Crossroads does was the reason we nominated the Kendall family as “most philanthropic family” back in 2012. From donations and volunteering to raising awareness and helping organize events, the tireless work of the Kendalls has benefitted generations of children, youth, and families who access Hull’s programs.

“Not only are we tremendously honoured to receive such nominations, but for my father, something he’s always been big on is helping others and building networks and communities. And for him, you can see how proud he is of his family and the beliefs and values he’s instilled in us,” Kori adds.

Crossroads Market has been longtime supporter of Hull Services – most notably the Hull in One Golf Classic as Presenting Sponsor. In fact, they’ve been around since day one of our annual golf tournament!

And by being such an integral supporter of ours for decades, Crossroads has had a tremendous impact on the children, youth, and families we support over the years, recognizing the systemic issues they often face. They are deeply committed to making a difference in their lives.

“One thing I love about Hull, after getting to know some people there over the years, is that everybody is there because they truly care – care about the mission and values of Hull’s, and care about the work being done,” she says.

One story Kori likes to tell is from a few years ago,. She was on a camping trip, and a man in a nearby campsite was playing his guitar while singing songs around a fire. After some back and forth conversation, Kori was telling him about her plans for the upcoming week, and how she was attending the Hull in One Golf Classic.

He said to her, “I went to Hull, back when I was younger. I came from a family of five brothers, and my mom had some health issues, and as I got into my teens, she didn’t have the energy or health to be watching out for us all – and I got into some trouble, going down the wrong path.”

He was put in touch with a mentor at Hull, and shared with Kori that if he hadn’t met his mentor, he’d be in jail.

“It’s important to do what you can. When you hear the stories of people who have received the services at Hull, they’ve spoken about what it’s meant for them and their lives, and I really think that helps everybody in the community,” says Kori.

Magic certainly happens when the Kendalls are involved.

Hull Services is continually grateful for the tireless efforts of Crossroads Market and their support of the community. We can’t wait to tee up with them at the Hull in One Golf Classic Presented by Crossroads Market.
