The Position:

We are looking for a full time Accounting Manager.

Reporting to the Controller, the Accounting Manager plays a vital role in supporting financial management, helping prepare financial statements, and assisting in formulating internal controls. This role ensures the maintenance of accurate and complete financial transactions and accounting records. It, provides leadership to the accounting team, leads project-based initiatives, and collaborates with the programs and other departments to support Hull Services’ mission and vision.

The schedule for this position is Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Financial Management

  • Oversees day-to-day financial operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, inventories, and general ledger functions.
  • Assists in month end closing processes, preparation and disbursement of monthly program financial reports.
  • Provides program-specific financial information and reports to support program operations and enable proper follow-up.
  • Works closely with the Accounting team for external year end audit including preparation of working papers, account reconciliation, lead sheets, and responses to Auditors’ inquiries.

 Internal Controls and Compliance

  • Assists in implementing and adhering to financial and internal control policies, procedures and systems to improve the overall effectiveness.
  • Ensures financial records are maintained in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and government regulations.

Team Leadership

  • Leads, mentors, and motivates the Accounting team, and fosters a positive, collaborative, and high-performing work environment.

 Other Duties

  • Performs in special projects as assigned by the Director of Finance and the Controller and ensures proper tracking systems and filing of financial reports with appropriate agencies.
  • Liaises with service providers, such as bank, insurance broker, and investment manager, etc.
  • Maintain a continuous learning mindset and participate in ongoing professional development activities.

 Qualifications and Skills:

  • CPA designation
  • Five years of working experience in the not-for-profit sector.
  • Experience with government contracts and/or Microsoft Dynamics GP is an asset.
  • A strong team player with strong communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure, prioritize, and meet deadlines .
  • High moral and ethical standards.
  • Demonstrated interest, commitment, consistency, and a high level of self-awareness, personal maturity and responsibility.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively with team.
  • Self-motivated, positive and ability to take initiative.
  • Cross cultural competence; knowledge of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the recommendations, goals and activities of the commission.
  • Clear Police Information Check (including Vulnerable Sector Check) and Intervention Record Check.
  • A Child Intervention Record Check is required upon commencement of employment
