Hull Services is seeking individuals to serve as Therapeutic Foster Parents for our new Therapeutic Foster Caregiving Program (TFC)
As a Therapeutic Foster Parent, you will be welcoming a youth into your home and acting as their primary care provider and a key member of a professional team.
As a Therapeutic Foster Parent, you will be entitled to some of the same supports as conventional foster parents. You will also receive additional tax-free financial compensation, paid respite care, specialized training, in-home coaching, case consultation from skilled professionals, and on-call support.
Therapeutic Foster Parents provide the opportunity for youth with complex trauma to receive support in a home-based environment instead of a group living /congregate care setting. Complex trauma refers to the impact of a youth’s ongoing exposure to multiple significant traumatic events on their healthy functioning and development, as often these youth have more pronounced behavioral and mental health needs than the children in conventional foster care. Foster caregiving takes place within a network of support to help individuals achieve success so they can begin their transition to a family home or their forever home.
As a Therapeutic Foster Parent, you will be provided with the training and support to confidently develop therapeutic relationships and to support the needs of youth in your care, while working with the therapeutic care team and the youth’s natural supports.
Step 1: Initial inquiry. You will be invited to participate in an initial interview with our recruiter by phone or video chat.
Step 2: Following your application, the recruiter will set up an in-home consultation to review your application and discuss suitability and appropriateness of fit. This in home consultation includes an interview with applicants and a walk-through of your home.
Step 3: You will complete PRIDE Pre-Service training. This is an online, self-paced training provided by Alberta Children’s Services and will include two virtual check-ins by government personnel/trainers.
