About Friendship Group

Hull’s Friendship Group is an evidence and skill based program that offers children the opportunity to learn and practice social skills.

Who this Program Supports

This program is for children ages 5 to 7 and 8 to 11.

Friendship Group supports children who struggle with making friends or who have trouble maintaining friendships. Life for these children can be very difficult. They might feel insecure, awkward and isolated. They might find themselves in frequent conflict with their peers and unable to work well in a give and take relationship. Friendship Group can make a difference for them.

Our Approach

Through fun and strategic activities and games, children will develop and learn social skills such as:

  • understanding and identifying feelings
  • working on a team helping and sharing with friends
  • stopping, thinking and controlling themselves before they act
  • negotiating with others
  • following rules and many more

Friendship group meets one to two times per week for 14 weeks depending on age. The groups will be run about 1 to 1.5 hours long. Group size will be limited to six to eight children.

Please Note: Children and families must be committed to the full 14 weeks.

How to Access the Program

Friendship Groups is a self-referral program

Families can self-refer their children to the group or may be referred by the Calgary West Family Resource Network or by another professional or service (although the program is voluntary).
