When we talk about youth mental health, it is easy to focus on numbers.
But behind every statistic is a young person with a future still being written.
In Calgary and across Canada, only 1 in 5 young people with a mental illness receive the support they need. That means four out of five are left waiting, struggling, or trying to heal on their own. For some, that wait can last months. For others, years. And for too many, the help they need never comes.
Hull Services sees what happens when help comes too late. We meet young people who have been moved from place to place, parents doing their best in the face of overwhelming challenges, and trust that has been broken again and again.
89% percent of the children we support have experienced significant trauma before the age of 5. Without the right support, that trauma does not fade with time. It shapes how a young person learns, connects, and grows.
The crisis is real. But so is the solution.
Hull is home to Canada’s largest integrated campus for youth mental health, right here in Calgary. It is so much more than a treatment centre. It is a healing community grounded in science, culture, and relationships.
Our approach blends the Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics with culturally grounded care, Indigenous knowledge, and a commitment to whole-family support. We stay as long as it takes — walking alongside children and families until healing takes hold.
This September, you can help ensure Calgary’s young people are so much more than a statistic. Take our “How much do you know about the mental health of Calgary’s youth?” quiz. For every quiz completed, a generous donor will give $5 to Hull Services programs that bring safety, trust, and hope to youth and families.
It only takes a few minutes to learn something new, unlock vital funding, and show Calgary’s youth that you believe in their future.
