Family Initiatives

Family

Family Initiatives collaborates with all family members to strengthen, preserve and reunify. By engaging and teaching new skills, families are empowered to improve their own lives.

Family Initiatives is a program that provides in-home support to help preserve or reunify families. Families work collaboratively with our workers, called Family Specialists, to help families reach their goals.

Some of the families that are working with the Family Initiatives program are ones that may be at-risk of losing their children to an out of home placement. Some have already been removed from their homes and it is the goal to help the children move back home. In these cases, our Family Specialists will help teach parenting skills and ways for the parents to be able to parent their children independently. Our workers develop goals with the family to help them achieve success in their parenting, communication, conflict resolution and overall familial wellness. They also work to support families to help them connect to their community and cultural resources as well as work with outside supports to help them maintain any progress that has been made. The primary goal of any intervention is to ensure permanency for the children involved and to maintain contact with whomever is identified as the children’s family.

The program has credentialed staff as Positive Parenting Program (Triple P) practitioners and this parenting model/curriculum is available to families through these workers. The program also has one worker who provides in-home services to families out of North of McKnight Community Resource Centre.
